Supplemental Health Insurance (Canada): Optional insurance, purchased privately or through an employer, that pays for health-related costs not reimbursed by provincial medicare plans—such as prescription drugs, dental and vision care, physiotherapy, medical equipment, ambulance, and travel emergency care—typically covering an agreed-upon portion or dollar limit after any deductible or copayment, thereby supplementing the core public health services provided by the user’s province or territory.
