Safe Driver Discount

Definition

Safe Driver Discount: In Canadian auto-insurance, a premium reduction granted by an insurer to a policyholder who demonstrates a sustained pattern of low-risk driving. Eligibility is typically verified through an approved usage-based telematics device, a clean driving record (usually free of at-fault claims or serious traffic convictions for a minimum period set by the insurer—often three, five, or more years), or successful completion of an accredited driver-training or defensive-driving course. The discount is applied to the base premium calculated for mandatory and optional coverages and may be increased or decreased at renewal based on continued adherence to the insurer’s safe-driving criteria.
