Living Benefit

Definition

Living Benefit: In Canadian insurance, an optional rider added to a life insurance policy that lets the policyholder access part of the death benefit while they are still alive if they meet specified medical conditions, such as a terminal or critical illness. The money received is tax-free and can be used for any purpose; whatever is withdrawn is subtracted from the final death benefit paid to beneficiaries.
