Evidence Of Insurability

Definition

Evidence Of Insurability (EOI): In Canadian insurance, this is the official process and supporting documents used to prove that a person meets the health and risk requirements needed to qualify for a specific insurance benefit or level of coverage. Insurers usually ask for an EOI—such as a short health questionnaire, medical exam, or lab tests—when a person is applying for new coverage, requesting an increase in existing benefit limits, or enrolling late for workplace benefits. Passing the EOI effectively confirms to the insurer that the applicant is an acceptable risk for the requested coverage.
