Declarations Page

Definition

In Canadian insurance, the single, clearly labeled front page (or its electronic equivalent) that accompanies every policy and summarizes, in plain language and bullet-point format, the essential facts that define the specific insurance contract. It lists the policy number, the legal name and address of the named insured, the precise period of coverage (start and end dates and times), a high-level description and value of each item or risk insured, the policy limits chosen for each coverage section, the deductible amounts applicable, any riders or endorsements that alter standard wording, and the total premium charged. Though not the full contract, the Declarations Page is the quickest reference for verifying who is insured, what is insured, how much it is insured for, and when the protection is in force.
