Custodial Care

Definition

Custodial Care: Professionally provided long-term assistance with routine daily activities (such as bathing, dressing, eating, mobility, and supervision for safety) that is not expected to improve the underlying medical condition and can be delivered by non-medical caregivers. In Canadian insurance policies, these services are often payable only after the insured has qualified through a defined period of dependence or has exhausted coverage for skilled care, with benefits contingent on meeting the policy’s specific triggers for custodial-level care.
