Cash Surrender Value

Definition

Cash Surrender Value – The amount of money a Canadian permanent life-insurance policy owner can receive from the insurer if they voluntarily cancel the policy before death or maturity. The insurer calculates it by subtracting any debts (such as policy loans) and applicable surrender charges from the current cash fund that has built up inside the policy. The policy immediately ends when this sum is paid.
