Pre-Existing Condition

Definition

Pre-Existing Condition: Any illness, injury or medical symptom for which a person has received (or was formally advised to seek) medical consultation, examination, investigation, care or treatment—during a set period that ends on or just before the policy’s effective date or the start of a trip. Coverage decisions depend on the stability of the condition: insurers usually require that, for the last 60-180 days, the condition has been stable, meaning the person has experienced no new symptoms, no worsening, no treatment changes and no new prescriptions.
