Free Look Period

Definition

In Canadian insurance, the Free Look Period is a non-negotiable 10-day window that starts the moment your newly issued individual life, health, or accident and sickness policy is delivered to you (whether electronically or on paper). During this period you may read the policy in full, compare it to any illustrations or quotes you were given, and cancel for any reason—no questions asked—and receive a complete refund of every premium you have paid (minus any optional administrative charges that were separately disclosed). The right is personal to the policy owner; it does not require a medical exam or explanation, and once you waive it in writing or the 10 days expire, the contract continues under its regular terms.
